Our Story

The Maddox Foundation was founded by Angelina Jolie in 2003 with the goal of working with locals to transform the most heavily mined parts of Cambodia. Rooted in deep collaboration with rural communities, between 1992 and 2018, more than 4 million landmines were removed. This work set the stage for environmental protection and as as the issue of landmines became less urgent, our work transitioned to environmental conservation, livelihood programs, and infrastructure investments in clinics and schools.

For over 20 years we have empowered local leaders to pioneer a sustainable model of development that is 100% locally run. Our future efforts are focused on continued environmental conservation and improving the livelihoods of the communities we serve.
